Southern Issue group presents its final report at NDC’s second plenary session

23 June 2013 /

The NDC’s Southern Issue Working Group presented a final report on its past two months’ worth of conference activities at a plenary session meeting on Sunday.

Among the group’s activities was the formation of a trust-building committee from among its members during the holding of the NDC’s first plenary session. The committee went on to formulate a list of eleven key points of discussion on the subject of southern Yemeni issues.

The report also included an overview of the group’s general goals, which included identifying the ‘roots’ and key components of the southern issue. Key later goals included reaching a consensus on these same aspects of the southern issue.

Fact-finding and research efforts involved an exploration of public attitudes toward the southern issue and attempts to clarify the political positions of southern opposition members who reside outside of Yemen.

The report also made mention of the decision to postpone group member field visits to southern governorates until after the NDC Technical Committee’s twenty points had been implemented.

The twenty points in question were submitted by the committee to President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi late last year and were designed to pave the way for a productive conference.
