NDC Vice President Yasin Makkawi has stated that the NDC came as the result of a public determination to prevent chaos and conflict and to build a new Yemen.
Makkawi made the comment on Sunday in a meeting which included representatives from the NDC’s Presidential Board and Secretariat General and a delegation from the Arab Parliament, led by Parliament President Ahmed Al-Jarwan.
NDC Vice President Sultan Al-Atwani said the NDC members were very interested in finding consensus solutions to Yemen’s problems as part of an effort to preserve the country’s stability.
At the meeting, NDC Second Deputy Secretary Genearl Yassir Al-Roaini briefed the Arab Parliament delegation on conference preparations, representation quotas, various NDC activities, working group distribution, decision-making processes and the responsibilities of the NDC Consensus Committee.
For his part, Al-Jarwan praised the dialogue conference in Yemen, saying that it was run “in a very democratic, honorable way.”
“What we saw at the NDC was promising and tells Yemen that it is walking on the right path,” he said, before adding, “We will convey the situation to the Arab Parliament and to our countries.”
Al-Jarwan invited the NDC’s Presidential Board to participate in the Arab Parliament’s next session in October, to speak about and introduce the NDC experience, which, he said, may be helpful for certain countries.
He said the Arab Parliament would demand that the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference be recognized as a model for solving problems in other countries.
For his part, Mostafa Al-Shbeikat, a Jordanian member of the Arab Parliament, said the world was speaking about Yemen’s dialogue experience. He urged dialogue participants to continue walking the path which would serve to extricate Yemen from its state of crisis.
Saudi Arabian MP Abdullah Abdulkarim Al-Sadoon suggested that NDC teams be sent to countries experiencing problems similar to those which Yemen has been facing.
He reconfirmed Saudi support for the NDC which, he said, remains the only way in which all Yemen’s challenges can be overcome.
Furthermore, Al-Sadoon urged Yemeni citizens to place their country above all else.
Omani MP Musalam Al-Mashani also reconfirmed his country’s support for Yemen’s unity and political transition process.
