United Nations Special Advisor to Yemen Jamal Benomar arrived in Sana’a on Saturday for a visit which comes as part of consistent efforts by the UN to support Yemen’s political transition.
In a statement to the Saba News Agency, Benomar said that the UN Security Council has observed remarkable progress in Yemen’s political transition process, before adding that the council had recently discussed the nation’s political, security, economic and humanitarian challenges.
During the visit, Benomar will prepare a report on developments in Yemen, with a special focus on the theme of political transition. He said his report would be presented to the Security Council in the coming weeks.
He added that he would also be discussing the upcoming Friends of Yemen conference with officials. The conference will be run parallel with the sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September.
Benomar also told the Saba News Agency that he planned to meet with the NDC’s working groups, as well as the conference’s Presidential Board and Conciliation Commission, to discuss the matter of UN support for Yemen’s National Dialogue.
