With UN Special Advisor to Yemen Jamal Benomar in attendance, Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi chaired a meeting of the NDC Consensus Committee on Monday.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Palace in Sana’a, was dedicated to a discussion of the NDC working groups’ activities. A special focus was placed on progress made in addressing key national issues at the conference.
Furthermore, the meeting also focused on the twenty points which were put developed by the NDC’s Technical Committee to address various grievances and pave the way for the holding of a national dialogue.
Hadi praised efforts by NDC’s members, saying “They have proved that they are laying the foundation for a new era in Yemen’s history, one which features a peaceful and modern state without exclusion or marginalization.”
“All Yemeni foes are now gathering around one table to solve their disagreements using the language of dialogue – and not the language of weapons,” he added. “We have overcome many challenges and difficulties and we are today on the verge of a completely successful national dialogue conference (NDC),” he said.
“There were those who spoke about caveats and fears with regard to the holding of the NDC. Today, the NDC has gathered all of Yemen’s political, societal and cultural segments under one roof and has made strides toward the third stage,” said Hadi.
