
The youth and women Forum at UN envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar's Office in Sana'a organized on Saturday a meeting with women and youth components along with civil society organizations in the NDC to discuss the Just Solution document to solve the southern issue its guarantees and solutions.
The coordinator of the forum, said that meeting came in respond to a request of women and youth components along with civil society organizations in the NDC to get acquainted with the background of Just Solution document to solve the southern issue.
During the meeting, the constitutional expert at Jamal Benomar's office John Baker indicated to process of the Just Solution document until being signed by the political components in the NDC. He pointed to meetings held by the 8+8 sub-committee, tasked with finding solutions to Southern Issue, for several months.
"The presence of the UN envoy in Yemen was as a facilitator for the political process and not as a part in the political process, he said, adding the formation of the forum is to help those components in the process of dialogue, which is considered the weakest among the national dialogue's components."
He said that during the meeting and after discussing all the presented points and reviewing those which they agreed upon and those which they did not, the final document was submitted and signed on.
When he was asked about the guarantees for the implementation of the document and for the issue of the South, the UN expert said that all people are responsible and have to act like that in order to get to the targeted goal, and one of those guarantees is transparency.
"Our presence with this sub-committee was as a witness to all those who involved in it, and Benomar is to leave to New York after ten days and will submit his report to the Security Council on this process ," he added.
And stressed that the real assurance is the Yemenis themselves in addition to the integrity and sincerity of this country's people, who have to monitor the performance of media and reporting about it, as well as supporting those media which provide accurate and real information to the public.
Also, media expert at UN envoy to Yemen's office, Omar Makhfi talked about media side in the NDC, explaining that there is agreements with NDC members to deal with the public opinion on issues related to the conference. "We agreed upon nominating a spokesperson for the NDC, but no one is committed to doing so, because each side wants to deal with the dialogue in his own manner,'' Makhfi said.
He said that there is a clear weakness in the official and government media's coverage, referring that to the weakness of efficiency and professionalism, while media parties were engaged in the conflicts and fabricating inaccurate reports and transferring incorrect facts.
"Who looks at Yemeni media, he can find out that 70% of what have been written is rumors,'' Makhfi mentioned. He added those actions are not a strategy of reporters, but they are a strategy of sides that have a background about the propaganda which we have noticed through campaigns targeted the UN envoy to Yemen, NDC Secretary General, and the Yemeni government.
