3 February 2014 /

On Monday, the committee to determine regions hosted a meeting headed by the committee's Vice President Abdul Kareem Al-Eryani.

The committee listened to an economic vision for Yemen for 2030, prepared since June 2012 by a number of local experts, including academies and specialists along with figures from Yemen's private sector.

The vision called for determining economic regions in Yemen based on scientific bases. Such a plan aims to improve the efficiency of services as well as the promotion of economic growth, in addition to developing a decision-making process through community participation.

The vision also focuses on the economic features in each region and how to develop them, as well as enhancing the environment of local investments through creating an environment of competition and integration. It also aimed to achieve quick economic growth rates through creating new jobs that would improve the economic situation of people.

The vision concluded with a specification of economic regions based on a number of criteria and scientific standards, including the availability of sustainability, resources, and economic opportunities along with the social and historic harmony, as well as the possibility of integration among regions.

At the meeting, the vision was discussed deeply by the committee's members. The committee is expected to continue its work on Tuesday.
