Yemeni media outlets played two different and contradictory roles during the 10 months of the National Dialogue Conference started on March 18, 2013 and concluded on January 25, 2014.
While some media outlets projected a clear and positive image on the progress of the NDC, others projected a dark image in an attempt to hinder the progress of the conference.
However, after the successful conclusion of the NDC, Yemeni journalists hoped that the local media outlets would play a positive role in implementing the NDC outcomes on the ground.
Dr. Mohamed Qaezan, the director of the Suhail Satellite Channel said that in the framework of the mutual responsibility between media outlets and community, the media should promote and explain the NDC outcomes, calling on private, official, and party media to work together for the a better future of Yemen.
Journalist Ahmed al-Zorka pointed to the gap between the media and the conference, which he said continued until after the conclusion of the NDC. He stressed the importance of creating a joint effort from the two sides to cover the post-NDC phase and the implementation of the NDC outcomes neutrally.
Author Akram al-Thulaia said that the role of the media is always based on the principle of transparency through implementing the NDC outcomes and raising the awareness of the importance of the NDC document.
Journalist Mansour al-Fakeh called on Yemeni media outlets to raise community awareness on the importance of the NDC outcomes among citizens in society.
