Nasserite Party members present understandings of Southern Issue’s ‘roots’

29 April 2013 /

At Monday’s Southern Issue Working Group meeting, the Nasserite Unionist Party presented its understanding of the issue’s ‘roots’.

The party’s representatives said the Southern Issue could be traced back to the moment when the south gained independence from Britain on November 30, 1967. At that time, they said, the National Movement had different opinions and visions than the National Front, which opened the doors wide to political conflict.

The Nasserite Party members said they considered the regime’s revenge policies to be one of the main causes of problems to follow. Similarly, they added that the government’s destructive economic policies also contributed to problems in the south after 1994.

They added that further contributing factors were actions taken against southern political participation, attempts to destroy the South’s political and administrative heritage, and the encouragement of southern fanaticism.
