
A small but vocal number of National Dialogue Conference (NDC) members staged a demonstration on Sunday to demand the release of ‘revolutionary detainees’, youths who were were imprisoned during the course of Yemen’s 2011 Revolution.
They chanted slogans such as ‘Oh free people, freedom to the revolutionaries’ and ‘No to extrajudicial arrests and detentions’.
They also held up placards reading ‘Release the detainees of the revolution and at Guantanamo’.
One protesting NDC member held up a placard reading ‘Freedom to Abdulelah Haider’.
Haider is a Yemeni journalist who was sentenced to five years in prison after he was convicted of having links with the Al-Qaeda militant organization. So far, Haider has served three years of his prison term.
