Southern Issue group approves proposed chairperson replacement

7 May 2013 /

On Tuesday, the NDC’s Southern Issue Working Group has approved a proposal from the Southern Movement members to replace the group’s former chairperson, Ahmed Al-Suraima, with Muhammad Ali Ahmed.

Al-Suraima recently withdrew from the National Dialogue Conference and proceeded to travel to Oman.

The suggested replacement presided over today’s group meeting. The group’s two vice chairpersons, Bilqis Al-Lahabi and Muhammad Abu Lohom, were also in attendance.

At the meeting, members discussed media coverage which blurs the lines between religion and politics and serves to provoke tensions and stir street-level disharmony.

The group assigned group member Muhammad Mousa Al-Ameri to discuss the topic with representatives of the Yemeni Clerics’ Organization.
