NDC members speak out against continued targeted killings

11 May 2013 /

A sizable group of NDC members staged a demonstration on Saturday in order to shed light on and condemn the insecurity, violence and targeted killings which have hit certain southern governorates particularly hard.

Lining up in the lobby of Sana’a’s Movenpick Hotel, a large share of the protesting members focused their words and condemnations on last week’s killing of three Air Force pilots and one intelligence soldier in Lahj.

Placards with slogans reading ‘Stop systematic violence against the southern people’ and ‘Perpetrators must be brought to justice’ were among those held up by the protesting NDC members.

Meanwhile, a statement submitted by the NDC’s southern members warned of possible scenarios involving the fall of southern cities, akin to what befell Abyan when militants overran the city in 2011. The statement also warned of the possibility of further assassinations taking place in the name of terrorist aims.

Furthermore, the statement urged the Southern people to maintain solidarity and stay sufficiently alert to face up to any conspiracies which aim to target their lives, peace and security.
