Yemeni Socialist Party presents conception of Southern Issue’s components

11 May 2013 /

On Saturday, the Yemeni Socialist Party presented its conception of the southern issue’s components to the NDC working group tasked with addressing the southern issue itself.

A party representative said the key difference between the issue’s roots and components was that the latter preceded the former.

The 1994 civil war produced the issue’s political dimension, which itself was made up of a number of components, said the Yemeni Socialist Party representative.

The representative added that southern problems had not only internal, but also external, repercussions and that external interventions had continued, even eventually involving the United Nations Security Council.

The second component which was raised was concerned with the deteriorating social situation in the south, particularly after the post-civil war regime targeted all political, economic, social and cultural pillars on which southern society had been based before unity, said the representative.

Bad policies by the regime were behind the collapse of south Yemen’s political, economic, social and cultural pillars, according to the party representative.

The Islah Party failed to present its conception of the Southern issue’s components as scheduled. An Islah Party member apologized for the delay.
