On Saturday, the security-building committee - part of the NDC’s Military and Security Working Group - held separate meetings with Deputy Interior Minister for Civil Services Abdulrahman Al-Barawi and leadership figures from Yemen’s Police Academy, Coastguard, Passport Authority, Civil Defense Institution and Police School.
The committee members acquainted themselves with the responsibilities of the government institutions and also familiarized themselves with the laws and bylaws which govern them.
The NDC members also listened to explanations of the challenges which face the institutions. They agreed that each institution should submit proposals to amend bylaws or other legislation if there was a desire for such changes to be reflected in Yemen’s new constitution.
Furthermore, they discussed issues in an effort to evaluate the current status of the security services and to help them improve their performances to protect the citizens.
