Legal Affairs Minister discusses transitional justice law with NDC group

Committees from the NDC’s Working Groups on Good Governance, State-Building and Transitional Justice, met with officials from the local government in Taiz province on Saturday.

Yassir Al-Roaini, the representative of the NDC’s Secretariat General, said the goal of the visit was to hear from officials, civil society organizations and other segments in Taiz.

The members of the committees heard about issues and challenges faced in Taiz in all aspects, with a focus on the security situation and required changes to the state structure.

Regarding development, local officials said the centralization was a roadblock to development projects implementation and expansion.

In reply to a question about enforced disappearances in Taiz, Secretary General of the Local Council, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Haj, said the latest enforced disappearances were reported during the Hujaria events in 1978.

“We will hold meetings with the security systems in this province to find out about disappearances,” he said.

The committees are expected to meet later in the day with civil society organizations to hear from them about the latest developments in Taiz.
