Committees from the NDC’s Good Governance, Transitional Justice and State-Building Working Groups have been discussing their groups’ respective core issues with local political party leaders in Taiz governorate.
During a meeting with the party leaders on Sunday, other key issues affecting the governorate – including food insecurity – were discussed, as were recent developments in Taiz.
For their part, many of the party leaders held powerful groups in Sana’a, as well as Taiz’s local government, accountable for across-the-board deteriorating conditions in Taiz.
They went on to urge Taiz Governor Shawqi Hayel to do more for the city.
With regard to the subject of good governance, the party leaders said that the situation in Yemen wouldn’t stabilize unless the last government regime was completely dismantled.
They added that Yemen needed to have a constitution which would serve themes of justice, equality and modernization, while also serving citizens’ aspirations.
Furthermore, they demanded that Yemen’s new constitution ensure independence for government authorities and include provisions which would serve to professionalize the nation’s armed forces. They added that Yemen’s electoral system must be reformed before any further elections are held.
