13 May 2013 /

A committee from the NDC’s Rights and Freedoms Working Group paid a visit on Monday to Hodeida’s Central Prison, where committee members checked on the conditions of inmates there.

Members of the team also met with prison officials and discussed the prison’s needs.

The team will conduct field visits to Hodeida and Hajja for four days, with three separate visits in each city a day. The target sites will include security institutions and central prisons, local government offices, fisheries and health organizations, and youth and civil society organizations.

On their visits, committee members will also inspect rural areas in order to become better acquainted with the areas’ basic service needs.

When meeting with governors and other government officials, they will discuss topics such as early marriage, slavery, child trafficking, refugees and organizational issues.
