
NDC teams met with officials, academics and students from Taiz University on Tuesday. Key among the issues discussed was the university’s low budget, with fund allocations often arriving with delays.
The teams were composed of members from the NDC’s Good Governance, National Issues and Transitional Justice and State-Building Working Groups.
Abdulrahman Sabri, Vice Chairman of Academic Affairs for Taiz University, said the institution was committed to scientific, transparent standards for enrollment, and to equality in terms of opportunity and employment.
He demanded that a lobby made up of university professors be formed to better enable them to communicate their thoughts and visions to the NDC.
At the university, discussions were held on NDC topics. Students and academics demanded that transitional justice be implemented. They also called for the promotion of national reconciliation and for the development of an independent armed services, judiciary, and media.
They also discussed challenges facing Taiz governorate, including insecurity.
Separately, teams from the Good Governance, Development, and Independence of Special Entities Working Groups met with officials from Hadhramout University for Sciences and Technology.
University Presient Muhammad Saeed Khanbash briefed the teams on the university’s current status. According to him, teachers are presently striking to demand delayed payments. He called for such issues to be addressed before affected citizens take to the streets to demand their rights.
