Representatives of the Islah and National Arab Socialist Ba'ath Parties and the Independent Women NDC segment presented their visions of legislative power in Yemen to the NDC’s State-Building Working Group on Wednesday.
Speaking about Wednesday’s presentations, Abdullah Abu Holaika, first Vice Chairperson of the Working Group, said that almost all of the visions on state-building and electoral and governance systems converged.
The Islah Party’s vision included the point that legislative power should serve to both deepen separations of powers and achieve a balance among them.
For its part, the Ba’ath vision included the point that legislative power should grant approval to general laws and policies, economic and social plans, general budgets and provide for supervision of executive power.
The women’s vision focused on the development and reform benefits a federal government system would provide.
After the three presentations had been delivered, Turkish professor Muhammad Rafiq provided a lecture on constitutional and human rights and freedoms.
