Teams from the NDC’s Independence of Special Entities, Development and Good Governance Working Groups met with youth representatives in Hadhramaut governorate on Wednesday.
The representatives discussed youth issues and demanded that more attention be paid to Hadhramaut, which they said contributes about 70% of Yemen’s state budget.
Yemen, which is largely dependent on oil revenues, exports around 160,000 barrels of oil a day from oil fields in Hadhramaut. The oil fields are operated by well-known oil firms such as Total and Canadian Nexen.
Teams from the NDC’s Good Governance, Development and Independence of Special Entities Working Groups also met with local businessmen and officials from Hadhramaut’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
At the meeting, a focus was placed on issues which face businesses, including judicial authorities who are perceived to be incompetent and the general security situation. Other issues connected with investment law and development projects were also discussed.
Apart from these visits, the Good Governance team met with activist and women’s group representatives.
The women’s group representatives urged the NDC members to pay closer attention to civil society organizations, to open offices for international organizations, and to engage Hadhrami women in local development efforts.
