NDC committee learns in detail about Hodeida’s development needs

During a field visit to Hodeida governorate, a committee from the NDC’s Development Working Group visited hospitals and medical facilities.

The committee members heard from workers and officials at the medical institutions about their needs and the challenges they face as they carry out their duties.

Separately, the committee members visited Hodeida Port, where they discussed trade and port expansion with officials.

Jamal Ayesh, Vice Chairman of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, briefed the committee on the port’s operations and said the port receives more than 300,000 containers a year.

Separately, the committee met with members of Hodeida’s Local Council and discussed NDC achievements up until the present time.

The council members, who represented a variety of political parties and civil society organizations, spoke to the NDC committee about extremely low literacy rates for among women, a deteriorating educational system and the harm fishing corporations have had on local fishery resources.

The council members also described poor, limited basic services for local citizens and the need for a modernized electricity grid and qualified medical personnel.
