
Al-Thawra Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Faisal Mukaram has said that the Yemeni press has pinned hope on the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) producing outcomes which serve to create a healthy environment for media activity.
Mukaram’s remarks came during a meeting with the committee on media affairs, which is made up of members from the NDC’s Independence of Special Entities Working Group.
While speaking about his newspaper’s operations and personnel, the editor-in-chief addedt that Al-Thawra Newspaper operates independently.
Committee Chairwoman Nadia Al-Koukabani said the committee’s responsibility was to collect information about the challenges facing media organizations and the media’s role in aiding Yemen’s transition into a civil state.
In a separate discussion, at Sana’a’s Movenpick Hotel, the NDC’s main site, the committee on media affairs led a discussion on media independence with media professionals and experts.
Al Jazeera correspondent Ahmed Al-Shalafi delivered a lecture on the post-revolution experiences of Egyptian and Tunisian media organizations.
The importance of refashioning – while at the same time providing for the independence of - Yemen’s media outlets represented a point of agreement between participants in the discussion.
