The NDC’s Independence of Special Entities Working Group heard a presentation by Hashem Awnallah, Country Director for Islamic Relief in Yemen, on a strategy for promoting social mobility in local communities.

Awnallah also briefed the working group members on projects focused on dispute resolution and promoting social peace, projects which Islamic Relief has implemented in 12 Yemeni governorates in recent years.

He said the strategy for promoting social peace in Yemen included the training of 1,200 social leaders in how to resolve disputes in their communities.

“We can’t achieve peace without addressing political, economic, social, and security challenges which result in disputes,” he said.

Awnallah stressed the importance of possessing preventive strategies to address the causes of conflicts, with the larger aim of shaping and protecting future generations with good governance, educations, good basic services and reduced poverty and unemployment.
