26 May 2013 /

On Sunday, the NDC’s Military and Security Working Group continued to discuss preliminary reports on its committees’ activities over the past two months.

Group members listened as committee Chairperson Muhammad Abdulqawi presented a report on the topic of security-building.

The report included a description of the police as a theoretically civil institution, and one which needs to be less centralized in nature.

A focus was also placed on disorder in Yemen’s security forces. The report included the demand that security forces be kept apart from the influence of political and personal interests.

Reading from the report, Abdulqawi said the recruitment of soldiers should be based solely on applicants’ qualifications.

He added that in this regard, equality of opportunity should be extended to applicants in all Yemeni governorates.
