NDC Vice President Abdul Karim Al-Eryani said on Monday that the Good Governance Working Group should now be focused on addressing contradictions in Yemen’s current constitution, as well as on the development of effective legislation.
During his visit to the group’s meeting, he said that the phrase “As the law clarifies” appears in most of the current constitution’s 60 articles.
"Such a phrase represents one of the deficiencies which must be addressed since references to laws in a constitution should not happen except in cases of utmost necessity," he said.
Al-Eryani also encouraged the use of public disclosures when answering group members’ questions on the matter of how data included in NDC field visit reports should be analyzed.
Furthermore, he affirmed that the group should produce possible constitutional solutions in the fight against corruption, before adding that transparency is paramount in such efforts.
Meanwhile, the Good Governance committees handed over reports on their recent activities to the group’s leadership members, who in turn will combine them into one report. The comprehensive working group report will then be submitted to the NDC’s Presidential Board.
