NDC members present documentary on 2nd anniversary of Taiz Square conflagration

29 May 2013 /

On Wednesday, youth NDC representatives from Taiz presented a documentary film to other conference members on the burning of revolutionaries’ tents at Taiz’s Freedom Square in 2011.

The film was displayed in an auditorium at the NDC’s main site, Sana’a’s Movenpick Hotel, on the second anniversary of the incident.

The film covered all aspects of the incident, which saw a number of tents burned down and the deaths of dozens of revolutionaries, all at the hands of security forces and supporters of Yemen’s former regime.

While on his way out of the auditorium after the film’s showing, NDC member Hassan Herad said, “I felt sad then and I feel sad now.”

However, when asked if much had changed from the date of the incident until now, Herad replied, “Many things have changed. We have the National Dialogue, and peace has prevailed.”

A number of photos were included in the film, of victims and of violent raids on the hospital the following day.

At the film’s conclusion, a number of NDC members staged a demonstration in the Movenpick’s lobby to demand that those responsible for the incident in Taiz be brought to justice.
