On Wednesday, members of the NDC’s Independence of Special Entities Working Group discussed the drafting of a final report covering the past two months of group activities.
The members agreed to vote on the report on Saturday, which will thereby provide them with time to suggest and discuss possible amendments in the meantime.
The report stated that the group had reached a consensus on the matter of setting up a completely independent high media council; at the same time, the report contains a recommendation that the Civil Service, Youth and Sports, and Human Rights Ministries be eliminated. In their stead, the group will recommend that the ministries be replaced with independent authorities.
Furthermore, the report will include recommendations that Yemen’s new constitution contain articles specifically focused on political, economic, cultural, and educational empowerment for youths and women.
In addition, the group’s members agreed that the constitution should contain assurances that civil and educational rights, as well as adequate healthcare, will be provided for women and children.
