During a visit to the Military and Security Working Group’s Monday meeting, Defense Minister Muhammad Nasser Ahmed stressed the importance of developing a professional, national military and security service.
“The national forces represent the most important pillar in building a good nation,” he said. "The Yemeni armed forces were not built on a scientific basis, and all attempts to professionalize them remained on papers which were put inside drawers,” he said.
Separately, members of the working group heard reports on wrongful terminations and forced retirements in the nation’s security establishment.
The first report recommended that the twenty points developed by the NDC’s Technical Committee be immediately implemented.
The second report placed a spotlight on the condition of Yemen’s security establishment and recommended that it be completely restructured.
