The NDC's Consensus Committee and ambassadors from ten nations which have continued to provide support for the National Dialogue met on Thursday to discuss the committee’s responsibilities.
At the meeting, a special focus was placed on the committee’s role in enabling NCD working groups to reach a consenus on topics before them.
NDC Vice President Abdulkarim Al-Eryani said there were overlaps in some topics before the groups due to similar concepts and the fact that multiple groups have been addressing a wide variety of issues.
Al-Eryani denied reports that the length of the NDC would be extended beyond six months, saying, “There are no worries concerning NDC activities, as they proceeding very well.”
At the meeting, French Ambassador to Yemen Frank Julie said solutions to Yemen's issues should be reached at the conference.
"Solutions should come from inside the NDC, not from outside," he said, before stressing the importance of keeping with the conference’s timetable.
Speaking about the newly-formed Consensus Committee, Julie said, "The committee's job is to seek conciliation on controversial topics; hence, it should avoid repeating discussions which the NDC's working groups have already had.”
Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Ali Mohammed Al-Hamdan said Gulf Cooperation Council member nations were looking forward to seeing productive results from the NDC which would lift Yemen from the crisis which it has been affected by for two years.
“The GCC nations, especially Saudi Arabia, understand the tough times which Yemen is currently going through," said Al-Hamdan.
