NDC officials have condemned the deadly clash which took place at Sana’a’s National Security Headquarters on Sunday.
The clash resulted in the deaths of 13 protesters and injuries for around a hundred more, with a number of the latter presently in critical condition. Dozens of protesters were also arrested by security forces. The clash broke out after the protesters, who had pitched tents in front of the headquarters building, vocally demanded the release of prisoners there.
“The NDC watched Sunday’s events closely and condemned violence and the use of force by any group, especially an unjustified attack on protesters by the National Security Forces,” read an official NDC statement.
“The attacks on protesters were considered an attack against the NDC. Henceforth, NDC members will not allow anyone to target the country’s stability and derail the NDC’s course,” the statement continued.
The NDC also condemned what it called an ‘irresponsible response’ to the calls of wounded revolutionaries and urged concerned authorities to address and rectify the situation immediately via the provision of healthcare to the wounded.
“President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi is monitoring all events because he does not want anything to serve those who are attempting to obstruct the transitional process in general and the NDC in particular,” the statement read. “Hadi strongly condemns the use of force and violence, no matter what the reason for it was,” it said.
Furthermore, the statement called for a committee be formed and tasked with launching a probe into Sunday’s violent clash.
