UN holds seminar on ‘Youth Visions of Federalism’

11 June 2013 /

On Tuesday, the United Nations hosted a seminar entitled ‘Youth Visions of Federalism’.  In attendance were numerous National Dialogue Conference (NDC) youth representatives.

At the seminar, French government expert George Anderson discussed federalist concepts, provided definitions of federalism and spoke about various state experiences with the form of government.

Youths presented their ideal visions of federalism for Yemen, with some pointing out that if implemented in Yemen, it must be in harmony with the nation’s political, economic and social trends.

Al-Sideeq Al-Ahrash, an NDC advisor and the seminar’s coordinator, said that further seminars and meetings would be held, with the purpose of supporting independent groups – youths, women and civil society organizations – both within and without the framework of the NDC.

“The main aim of the series is to learn about youth’s and women’s visions of the NDC in general and of federalism in particular, to ensure genuine contributions from these groups to the new constitution,” he said.
