The Development Working Group presented a final report on its first NDC session activity to those in attendance for the conference’s second plenary session on Saturday.
During the first conference session, the working group had 40 meetings, invited 50 experts - including a number of foreigners - and conducted 10 field visits to 10 governorates. According to the report, group members also made 14 visits to organizations in the capital city of Sana’a.
The report also stated that cultural development would be an important factor in achieving sustainable development and the implementation of good governance principles in Yemen.
A high authority was called for, to be tasked with protecting and documenting Yemen’s cultural and architectural heritage sites, as well as a national council for education and scientific research.
Social Development decisions were focused on the right of all Yemeni citizens to receive an education and find employment, and on the government's responsibilities with regard to the care of children and citizens with special needs.
In this regard, the group also called for economic and social development policies to be linked, and for development gaps between Yemen’s urban and rural areas to be bridged.
Finally, the report called for more attention to be paid to the need for suitable budgets to be allocated for combating food insecurity and educational development.
