NDC’s Military and Security Working Group presents 1st session final report

17 June 2013 /

Military and Security Working Group Chairman Yahia Al-Shami presented a final report on his group’s first session activities to members of all nine NDC working groups on Monday.

According to the report, the group divided its members into four committees which focused on the development of Yemen’s army, security and intelligence services, and on addressing complaints of wrongful terminations and forced retirements by members of Yemen’s military.

Key to the group’s presentation was a description of its constitutional, legislative and policy proposals and recommendations.

One such proposal would prohibit the establishment of any military entities by individuals, political parties, or any other societal groups.

The report also revealed that Military and Security Working Group members had decided that all military and security soldiers and officers should be barred from participation in electoral processes, whether as voters or candidates.

The report also contained recommendations concerned with matters of civil defense; the Prison Authority; the Coast Guard; the Immigration and Passport Authority; on traffic police and private security forces; and on improving the standards of life and medical care for Yemen’s soldiers and military officers.
